Signing off...

Finally, I’m done! After my persuasive speech, I felt happy because I know that I was able to delivered my speech better than before. I was able to handle my nervousness as well as I became more confident of myself speaking in public. And in fact, most of my weaknesses during my informative speech were improved. Unfortunately, not all of them.  Since my friends noticed that I still mispronounced English words that is why sometimes they do not understand what I’m saying.

Whenever I am about to deliver my speech, I used to plan.  Because for me, planning dictates my way to being a good speaker and it is also part of being organized. Organizing things makes it easier to do things right. There’s nothing wrong in being organize, yes it takes a lot of time to prepare but it’s actually worth it. And being organized, it follows to being responsible. Conducting researches and necessary information helps my speech be more credible. It builds my confidence since I knew that what I’m saying was all proven to be true.  However, it does not end there. It is important to practice or rehearse in order for me to be familiar with the flow of my speech. It is also effective for me not to forget what will I say in front.

After all the experiences, I promise to appreciate more English articles and novel because I only love to read the Filipino ones like Bob Ong books. Also, it is one way to improve my vocabulary. On the other hand, I will try to practice speaking in English even once a day. In that way, it will enhance my communication skills and it will somehow build up my confidence. Lastly, I swear to love English. I used to get insecure to others since I knew that I only know few English words than them. Also, I am afraid to make mistakes. With that, loving English will definitely improved my lives in the near future.

Not For Sale: End Human Trafficking (the finale)

Last February 15, I was able to deliver my speech according to my plan. I thought that my informative speech would be boring since it focuses on the social issue of the country, which makes me feel so nervous. However, as I go along with my speech, I noticed that my classmates were all looking at me and listening. That actually inspires me not to feel nervous at all. Seeing my classmates listening just boost my confidence. Probably, I just need to improve my pronounciation. There are words that I can’t pronounce fluently whenever I’m speaking in front. And I hope that in my upcoming persuasive speech, I will be more confident delivering my speech and effectively persuade my audience.

A lot of my classmates twitted me their questions regarding my speech and I chose the three best questions. To answer the first question by Hernan why there are few victims of human trafficking rescued by the government? it is stated at the journal “Trafficking in Human Beings from the Philippines: A Survey of Government Experts and Law Enforcement Case Files” that the repatriation or sending back home the victims of human trafficking takes a lot of time, effort and money. You also need to consider the transportation, may it be by air or sea. Also, most of the victims preferred not to go back home for the reason of the high salary they get aboard.

On the other hand, Aries also asked me what do you think will be the effects of human trafficking to its victim? The victims of human trafficking, physically or sexually abused, can face significant problems that must be addressed right away.  Those negative effects can create a number of health problems. In fact, based from the book Social Problems and Issues in the Philippines, the initial impact of human trafficking on individuals varies into five. The first is that most of the victims of the issue go through depression and suicidal thoughts for the reason that the victim’s perspective of life has been changed. Second, the victims were traumatized by their experiences. It’s been a normal reaction for any victim of crucial events like this because it is their first time to encounter this kind of event. Next, the victims felt alienated after the incident. The feeling of being isolated because on the unusual experience they gone through which affect their lifestyle. Lastly, the victims were at risk to HIV/AIDS, drugs and high risks on abortion.
Lastly, Eunice asked me what do you think is the best solution to human trafficking issue? For my own opinion, since most of the victims of human trafficking were the ones who undergo illegal recruitment, the best way to stop the issue of human trafficking is to avoid illegal practices.
The issue of human trafficking has been a problem of the Philippines for a long time. It can never be stop without the help of us Filipino people. We should altogether save our lives, avoid illegal recruitment and end human trafficking.

The Final Judgement

Nor For Sale: End Human Trafficking

I would like to discuss together with my fellow Filipino people about the responsibilities/ roles of the government regarding the issue on Human Trafficking in the Philippines so that they will be knowledgeable of protecting themselves from the traffickers.

I.               Introduction
A.      Attention Material. Are you all aware that again, one of our fellow Filipino has been executed in China? That’s Human Trafficking. You will be killed.

B.      Credibility Material. Since a lot of stories and news regarding the issue on Human Trafficking were being broadcast from all over the newspapers, tabloids, articles and even in magazines, I am well informed of the happenings concerning the issue.

C.      Tie to the audience. I know for sure that all of us have heard the execution of Sally Ordinario-Villanueva, Ramon Credo and Elizabeth Batain in China. As a Filipino, what can we do to end Human Trafficking?

D.     Preview. I will explain the responsibilities/ roles of the government in order for us to be aware on how we are going to protect ourselves outside the country.

II.             Body
A.    Three Element of Human Trafficking
i.               Purpose (why it is done) - the objective or intension on the victims by means of sexual trafficking, forced labour, slavery and the like are being planned
ii.              Act (what is done)- this is the first step on planning. The recruitment, transfer, harbouring and others happen at this stage.
iii.            Means (how it is done)- it includes the threat on the victims with the use of force towards them. It is considered as the last stage on trafficking because the final actions on the victims are being done at this point.
B.    Two main types of Human Trafficking
i.               Sex Trafficking- is a modern form of slavery in which a commercial sex act is provoke of age 18 and below to perform an action with corresponding payment in return.
ii.              Drug Trafficking- generally refers to the sales and distribution of illegal drugs.
C.    Responsibilities/roles of the government
i.               Prevention- the government must educate and train the people especially the women and the children to prevent them from being trafficked.
ii.              Protection- the government should protect the safety of the victims of human trafficking by means of supporting them and assisting the victims in going home to the country.
iii.            Prosecution- the government should advocate for the criminalization of human trafficking, taking into account the necessary offence of violating the law.
III.           Conclusion
A.   Final Review. So, today I have discussed the definition of human trafficking, its three elements, the two main types, the statistical population of the OFW and the responsibilities/ roles of the government on the issue of Human Trafficking.

B.   Tie back to the audience. Nowadays, there are a lot of job opportunities abroad   that offers high amount of salary. With that, this topic will be a big help in protecting ourselves while working.

C. Concluding Remarks. Now that we all know the responsibilities of the government, it is our job to follow the rules and avoid illegal recruitment. Let us protect ourselves, save our lives and paint the future of the new generation. For we are not for sale, altogether lets end human trafficking.

Nervousness: Is it a natural feeling?

Nervousness is a feeling that we encounter every day, may it be from work, in the school, peers and others. The central nervous system is the one responsible in accepting information or data from the external which will be passed through the brain. It is actually our mind that controls our feeling of nervousness. I was surprised that our brain is not only responsible for thinking but rather it also controls the behaviour of an individual. Now, I am more confident of myself since I have learned that I am not alone in this weird feeling. Thus, nervousness is a natural feeling of people who were at the state of panic, stress from work or environment, the well-known public speaking and the like.

Since dealing with nervousness is a common concern of students nowadays, a lot of effective ways or tips to control it have been proven scientifically. Based from my experienced, every time there were events wherein I have to speak in front of a crowd, I would always take a deep breath before the actual presentation. Also, I would always tell to myself, “I can do this”. It is a big help in relaxing my body that adds confidence in me which I believe is one of the abilities of a good speaker. Next is eating the foods you love which are rich in carbohydrates. In my case, a cup of coffee helps in awakening my body.  Although many said to stay away from caffeine because it adds to nervousness, for some reason I am used to drink coffee because it lessens the feeling of nervousness in my body. In addition, a bar of chocolate makes my mind active to talk about the topic. That is why I would always make sure to eat one whenever I will speak or take a test. And lastly, be prepared. Preparation is a need in achieving our goals in life. Just like what Henry Hartman once said, “Success always comes when preparation meets opportunity”. It only proves that nothing is impossible when you are prepared.

On the other hand, the possible topics that I would like to discuss in my informative speech are teenage pregnancy (cause and effect), about the secret weapon of becoming the best magician, and human trafficking which includes drug trafficking and others. I chose these topics because it is timely and it is about the life and safety of every Filipino inside and outside the country. Also, I hope that these researches will contribute to the betterment of our country.
